Welcome

Here you will find information about the branch, our events and birding in West Cork.

If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to contact the webmaster.

The Branch holds twenty to twenty-five outdoor and indoor events each year and these are open to the Public. The only exception to this is when a boat trip is involved, in which case the outing is limited to BirdWatch Ireland members only because of insurance. With exception of special trips, entry to our events is free.

On our outings you can learn to recognise birds and discover all about their habits and the habitats they live in. You can discover the amazing spectacle of migration and see birds from America, Europe and Asia which turn up on West Cork headlands each autumn and spring. We always ensure great leaders and each outing is well organised. We provide information on the walking difficulty of the outing: easy, moderate or severe. We have also have binoculars available for loan to beginners at our outings.

Please come along and enjoy the nature of West Cork.

Our next two events are:

Annual General Meeting and talk by John Horton

“Establishing South Africa’s First Bird Observatory”

7:30pm    O'Donovan's Hotel, Clonakilty
Our AGM is a great opportunity to meet the team and get involved in the Branch. We are always looking for help with running the Branch and you
do not need to be an expert birder to get involved. The more hands the better!

The meeting will be followed by a fascinating talk by John Horton, Bird Warden on Cape Clear Island. John was instrumental in the establishment of a bird observatory ion Alderney. He recently spent two months in the Karoo, helping to develop accreditation protocols for the first South African observatory.
